For the first time in 83 years, Piping Plovers (a Great Lakes endangered species) have returned to the shores of Ohio's Lake Erie beaches to breed.

On Thursday, July 1, at 7:44 a.m. the first chick began to poke its way out of the egg. By 5:00 p.m. all four eggs had hatched, and just like that, we have a family of SIX!

The Black Swamp Bird Observatory volunteers had some very special visitors July 7. Governor Mike DeWine and the First Lady brought some of their grandkids to visit our little plover family.
